Oculus Headed to TAVES 2014 in Toronto

The Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) has enjoyed a busy year in which it has featured at almost every major electronics show going. The device isn’t done yet; it will also be on display at the 2014 Toronto Audio Video Entertainment Show (TAVES) on 31st October to 2nd November in Toronto, Canada. The consumer electronics show is open to the public, meaning many will get their first chance to sample the anticipated device themselves.

It’s not clear exactly who will be showing the Oculus Rift, be it Oculus VR itself or a developer, or what software will be on display with the device. It has been revealed that the kit will feature as part of a ‘New Technology Arena’ in which attendees can discover upcoming new technologies along with the Oculus Rift such as Google Glass, Tesla cars and more. The area is one of a number of new additions for the 2014 version of the show.

“Having cutting edge presenters like Oculus Rift at this year’s show demonstrates how important the Canadian market is,” TAVES president Suave Kajko said of the show’s line-up. “This is one of the first times anyone will have the chance to experience first-hand what the media and insiders have been raving about for months. TAVES is letting consumers see and try what everyone is going to be using, wishing for and talking about.”

It will likely be the Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2) on display at the show. VR fans are currently eagerly awaiting news on the consumer version of the device after the debut of a new prototype, Crescent Bay, at the Oculus Connect developer conference in September 2014. A release date for the consumer version is yet to be announced. VRFocus will continue to follow the Oculus Rift closely, reporting back with any further updates.
