TRON: Light Cycles Released for Oculus Rift

The iconic light cycles from the Tron movie franchise have been a popular source of inspiration for many virtual reality (VR) experiences over the past few years. Few developers have actually attempted to directly translate the experience of riding one of these neon vehicles, however. This month indie developer James Clement has done just that with the release of TRON: Light Cycles for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD).

TRON: Light Cycles sits players in the seat of one of the vehicles and tasks them with cutting off an AI opponent using the trail of light left behind by the cycle. For now the experience is strictly single-player, although the developer also plans to implement multiplayer, multiple AI opponents and scoreboards in the future. Attacks and new modes are also planned for future updates, though it’s not yet clear when these might launch.

The title can currently be downloaded from the official Oculus VR Share Beta on PC and Linux. The developer has said that the title is currently experiencing some issues on Mac. The title features full support for the Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2). VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with any further updates.
