Underground VR Experience Beneath Launches

Another exploration-based videogame has launched with virtual reality (VR) support this month. Beneath from indie developer Khena.B has launched as a free experience via the official Oculus VR Share beta, where it can be downloaded on both PC and Mac. A possible Linux compatible version is yet to be mentioned. The title features full support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) and its second development kit (DK2).

Beneath is described by its developer as a short and atmospheric VR experience in which players tour a series of dark caves, riding in an ore cart. The project marks the developer’s first foray into VR. Previously Khena.B has worked in Cinematography, VFX, Audio composition, Texturing and Modeling, which the developer notes all ‘came in very handy’ when it came to creating Beneath. Development itself started when Khena.B received an Oculus Rift DK2 earlier in the year.

As the developer’s official website shows, Beneath has actually been updated a few times since it launched. Currently the title sits at v2.2, feature performance improvements, bug fixes and reworked models. The developer is also accepting donations from fans so that they might continue working on free VR projects. VRFocus will continue to follow each and every VR application, reporting back with any further updates.
