CINEVEO Launches Steam Greenlight Campaign

A range of virtual reality (VR) developers have revealed VR cinema experiences in the past, not least among them Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) creator Oculus VR itself. However CINEVEO from Mind Probe Labs is the first of these experience to make it to Valve’s Steam Greenlight service, where it hopes to secure enough positive votes to be sold on the digital PC store. Should this campaign prove successful then the developer will release CINEVEO as soon as possible.

CINEVEO uses the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) to place users in one of five different virtual cinemas, each with its own film. From there, players can view their own 2D and 3D videos, supporting virtually all video file formats including AVI, MP4, MOV, WMV, MKV and H.264 MKVs. The screen itself can be customised to change size and even shape, giving it a flat or curved surface. The title even uses a hands-free interface in which players can simply look at the option that they want to select.

Crucially, CINEVEO can be used either in single or multiplayer, meaning players can watch content together. Over time the software will also be seeing free updates with improvements and more films. Development of the title is already finished, meaning that it will be released just as soon as the Greenlight campaign has been passed and the developer can set up a Steam page. VRFocus will continue to follow CINEVEO‘s progress, reporting back with any further updates on it.
