Grave Dev Shows Title Running with Unity 5 Beta

Studios using the popular Unity development engine are currently enjoying a Beta testing period for the upcoming Unity 5, which brings a range of new features and updates. Virtual reality (VR) developers are already starting to show what their Unity-developed projects will look like using the latest version of the engine. VR Bits provided a screenshot of Darkfield running with the toolset earlier today and now the developer behind the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) compatible Grave has also shared a brief look.

Broken Window Studios’ Tristan Moore has posted a GIF online that showcases Unity 5’s dynamic global illumination (GI) within Grave. This feature adjusts the lighting in a scene depending on the time of day. Its effects can be seen here in one of Grave‘s desert areas. Features such as this will be especially important to horror titles such as Grave in which enemies attack players at night and are defeated using light-based weapons such as torches.

Grave is expected to launch early in 2015 on PC, where it features full support for the Oculus Rift. The title is also coming to both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, although support for the Project Morpheus VR HMD on the latter hasn’t yet been mentioned. Earlier in the year the title managed to raise $37,622 USD in a crowd-funding campaign. VRFocus will continue to follow Grave‘s progress, reporting back with any further updates on its development.
