Nevermind Passes Kickstarter Campaign in Final Hours

Indie developer Flying Mollusk has reason to celebrate this week. The studio has managed to turn around the Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for its upcoming horror videogame Nevermind in its final few days. The campaign has gone from less than half of its $75,000 USD goal funded on October 29th 2014 to finishing on $76,525 today, 3rd November. The goal was achieved with the help of some 1,526 backers including support from high-profile videogame industry figureheads such as Gearbox Software’s Randy Pitchford.


“We made it thanks to everyone’s amazing support and hard work!” the developer’s Erin Reynolds wrote in a Kickstarter update. “The team and I are still speechless over the overwhelming love and enthusiasm we’ve seen in the past couple of days – and the past few hours especially. I cannot put into words how incredibly excited I am that we’ll be able to bring Nevermind to a host of platforms, support compatibility for a number of sensors, and build even more content for the overall experience!”

The Kickstarter campaign’s success means that Nevermind can officially add Oculus Rift support to its brand of first-person horror. The title uses biofeedback, gathered from any one of a number of devices such as Intel’s RealSense camera, to create an experience that adapts to the user’s heart-rate. Should a player become too scared then the experience will become harder, making it essential that players learn to calm themselves before progressing.

This marks the second Kickstarter campaign for Nevermind after a first attempt ended in failure earlier in 2014. The title has since secured basic funding from Intel itself, although launched a new crowd-funding effort in order to add support for more devices and even bring the experience to Microsoft’s Xbox One console using the Kinect 2.0 sensor. Now that funding has been secured the developer hopes to launch an Early Access version of Nevermind on PC, Mac and Xbox One in January 2015.
