Red of Paw Updates Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro VR on PC and Mac

Indie developer Nick ‘Red of Paw’ Pittom has his hands full with two upcoming projects at the moment. The first is his RedOfPaw’s Big Crazy Stupid VR Adventure and American Pie experience based off of a trip to the Oculus Connect developer conference earlier in 2014. The other is Crystal Rift, a first-person virtual reality (VR) dungeon crawling experience currently pushing to raise funds through a Kickstarter campaign. Despite keeping himself busy, Pittom has found the time to update his two original VR demos.

This week Pittom has released new updates for My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away, the two VR adaptions of scenes from famous Studio Ghibli movies of the same name. Both titles now support the most recent version of Oculus VR’s software development kit (SDK) for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), version These updated versions are currently available for both PC and Mac, supporting the second development kit (DK2) version of the Oculus Rift. Pittom has even teased that Spirited Away features ‘a new addition’.

These experiences are exploration pieces. Spirited Away focuses on the boiler room scene from the celebrated 2001 anime classic while My Neighbour Totoro adapts the iconic catbus sequence. Currently Pittom is co-developing Crystal Rift with Jon Hibbins and hopes to create his own VR-dedicated title in Decay Theory, though it’s not clear when development of this project might get underway. VRFocus will continue to follow Pittom’s work closely, reporting back with any further updates.
