12 Days of VR Gaming – Day 1: TECHNOLUST‏

The holiday season is upon us and many of VRFocus‘ readers will be eager to spend much of their time travelling to worlds beyond their own daily grind. To that end, over the next 12 days VRFocus will be bringing some top picks of the virtual reality (VR) scene that you can download and play right now on either the Oculus Rift development kits or the Gear VR.

We’ll begin this series with a title that has already wowed many people with it’s first demo release, TECHNOLUST. After a successful Kickstarter campaign developer Blair Renaud has become something of a celebrity in VR circles, appearing on panels at conventions and liberally discussing the path to success through crowd-funding. His VR project, however, speaks for itself.

TECHNOLUST is a science-fiction adventure videogame developed by IRIS VR. Gameplay in TECHNOLUST is based primarily around exploration, as was witnessed in the very first demo for the videogame. The player, alone in a room, could interact with a limited number of objects with the resulting outcome likely to intrigue and surprise in equal measure.

“Aside from being exactly what every VR enthusiast has been dreaming about for years (a cyberpunk adventure game made exclusively for VR), TECHNOLUST is also on the leading edge of current VR technology in reality,” states Renaud. “From the inclusion of fully animated photoscanned NPCs (provided by Quantum Capture), to RealSpace3D’s positional audio, and beyond. The creators of TECHNOLUST continue to strive for excellence in all areas of VR gaming. IRIS VR has worked with Oculus, Sony, Nimble, LEAP, PrioVR, Tactical Haptics, Cyberith and many more leaders in VR to ensure that TECHNOLUST is not only cyberpunk in name, but also in practice.”

The original TECHNOLUST demo is downloadable via Oculus Share now, compatble only with the Oculus Rift DK1, and a second DK2 demo is offered to those who pre-order the videogame at https://legacy.trycelery.com/shop/technolust-rift. TECHNOLUST marks the first title selected by VRFocus in this 12 Days of VR Gaming series, be sure to check back every day for the next title on the list!

  1. This is an interesting idea, but I think a nice addition may be to include Google Cardboard titles as well. Though there aren’t many, that is one of the few VR solutions at the moment with the widest possible reach – at least in terms of someone could read this article, grab a 10 dollar Google Cardboard kit, and check it out. If nothing else, it’d be nice to see a small subsection of the site dedicated to this. I’m pumped for Oculus Rift, whenever it becomes an easily obtainable consumer product, but it seems Gear VR and Cardboard are the more immediate platforms to shine a little light on.
