12 Days of VR Gaming – Day 10: Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe VR

The holiday season is upon us and many of VRFocus‘ readers will be eager to spend much of their time travelling to worlds beyond their own daily grind. To that end, over the next 12 days VRFocus will be bringing some top picks of the virtual reality (VR) scene that you can download and play right now on either the Oculus Rift development kits or the Gear VR.

Some of the best VR experiences are based on truly outlandish concepts. Alien Makeout Simulator, for example, is memorable for asking players to make nice with a multi-mouthed creature. Sticking with the theme of aliens is Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe VR, a tribute to Christopher Gross’ cult Amiga and Mac videogame, Shufflepuck Café from indie team Agharta Studio.

In this unique title players find themselves as a space pilot that has crashed his ship on an alien planet after traveling through a wormhole. The unforgiving desert environment contains only one building, a casino in which people play air hockey for a live. It’s up to players to take on a number of imaginative creatures in order to earn enough money to repair their ship and make their way home.

Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe VR offers a plug-and-play experience for Oculus DK1 and DK2 on Mac and Windows, proving Agharta Studio’s strong involvement in VR design,” the developer states. “Described by a lot of players as a very good example of a what consumer release VR experience could be, this game features immersive and addictive static gameplay. Through elegant menu designs and polished, hand painted graphics, the game does not aim towards pure realism but definitely delivers in comfort of use. Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe VR is available for less than $10 on Steam at the moment.”

As the studio notes, Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe VR is on sale for £6.99 GBP on Steam, with full support for the Oculus Rift. The title is VRFocus‘ tenth entry in the 12 Days of VR Gaming list. Only two more to go!
