Monstrum Early Access Launch Date Revealed

Indie developer Team Junkfish has had an eventful year working on its upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible horror title, Monstrum. Having been announced in early 2014 the developer has kept fans in the loop with regular blog and appearances at shows as as EGX Rezzed in Birmingham, UK. Back in July the team had to confirm a slight delay for the project, pushing it back into 2015. Today it’s been revealed that Monstrum will be releasing in the very near future in Steam Early Access form, though VR support won’t yet be included.

The title will launch as a pre-release project on 29th January 2015, featuring most of the content that will be available in the final version. That includes two unique monsters that will hunt players as they search a procedurally-generated ship, looking for a means of escape. Three potential escape routes will be included in these levels, which are all made up of four individual sections. The final version of the title will add an extra monster, another section of the ship and support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD).

“We are very excited to announce the Early Access launch date for Monstrum,” the developer stated following the announcement. “Choosing to launch the game in Early Access was a truly difficult decision, however we felt that we owed it to all of the fans who have been patiently waiting on the game to try and meet our proposed launch date in some fashion and not further delay the game.” The full experience is now expected to launch in the second quarter of 2015 as the developer reasoned it needed more time to put the finishing touches on the final content.

During EGX London in September 2014, Team Junkfish had told VRFocus that it wasn’t planning a full launch over an Early Access release, although this will obviously no longer be the case. As result, the title will at least be launching at a discounted price of £9.99 GBP/$14.99 USD/€12.50 EUR. The full launch will be set at £11.99/$17.99/€14.99. VRFocus will continue to follow Monstrum‘s progress, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
