Oculus Rift Crescent Bay Coming to SVVR Holiday Party

Last week VRFocus reported on the reveal of the Silicon Valley Virtual Reality (SVVR) Holiday Party, due to take place on 11th December 2014 at the Computer History Museum. At the time a partial line-up was revealed, including the likes of Sixense, Innervision Games’ Ethereon and SEEBRIGHT. Now it’s been revealed that Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) creator Oculus VR will be in attendance and is bringing along a surprise. The company will be showing off its last prototype device, Crescent Bay.

This will mark only the third time that Crescent Bay has been shown off at an event since it was revealed at the Oculus Connect developer conference in Hollywood, California, USA in September 2014. Since that time it has been taken to the Web Summit in Dublin, Ireland and even over to South Korea for the G-Star event, where it made its consumer debut. Exactly what experiences will be on show at the Holiday Party are yet to be revealed.

Crescent Bay improves upon the Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2) with an OLED display that features a resolution higher than 1080p, full 360 degree positional tracking support and integrated audio. The kit was first shown with a handful of new VR experiences including the Showdown demo from Epic Games, running on the Unreal Engine 4 development toolset. The kit is said to be on the path to the full consumer version of the Oculus Rift, which is yet to be revealed or given an official release date.

Those interested in attending the SVVR Holiday Party can sign up on its official Meetup page. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all VR related news, reporting back with any further updates.
