Soundscape VR Wins Leap Motion 3D Jam [UPDATED]

Back in October innovative input manufacturers Leap Motion launched a contest for the virtual reality (VR) development community in which the contestants had to create a unique application or videogame making use of both the Leap Motion device and the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). The contest finalists were subject to public voting and today the winners have been revealed.

Walking away with the top prize is Soundscape VR, developed by sandersnake. Created using the Leap Motion mount, Soundscape VR allows users to create their own music with their fingertips using the in-built array of drum loops, effects and other components. Soundscape VR took first place from a total of 156 submissions.

Second place was awarded to Hauhet by VRARLab, a videogame in which the player selects fragment of the scene simply by looking in it’s direction and then moved used the Leap Motion. Third place was taken by Magicraft, developed by StormBringer Studios, which is currently undergoing a Steam Greenlight campaign.

You can view the full line-up of submissions and their final standing on Leap Motion’s official website. Each winner will take their prize from a total fund of $75,000 USD next month and VRFocus will keep you updated with future developments from the teams.

UPDATE: Since the publication of this article VRFocus has been informed that the titles mentioned are not in fact the winners of the contest, but instead the semi-finalists. Soundscape VR achieved the most votes at this stage and has been put through to the final with the winners to be announced in January. VRFocus apologises for the error.

  1. I haven’t heard anything about the semi-finalists yet. Does this article refer to just the community vote or the whole leap jam?

  2. @Jscottk You are correct, only the semi-finalists have been announced (you can see the complete list on Leap’s blog). Soundscape received the most community votes, but the final group of winners won’t be revealed until January 10th. – Eva from Leap Motion
