Vanguard V Confirmed for PlayStation 4 and Project Morpheus

Earlier in 2014 indie developer Justin Moravetz ran a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible videogame Vanguard V. The developer hoped to bring the title to the likes of the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus head-mounted displays (HMD) on PC and PlayStation 4 respectively, although sadly didn’t reach the target of $198,000 USD. Since then the project has been quiet, although recently reappeared on Samsung’s Gear VR HMD. Now it appears as if the Project Morpheus version has been reconfirmed.

Moravetz essentially announced that Vanguard V is coming to PlayStation 4 and Project Morpheus by confirming that the title is present at this week’s PlayStation Experience event in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Reaching out to Shuhei Yoshida, Sony Computer Entertainment’s Head of Worldwide Studios, the developer posted on Twitter: “Hey Shu, this is Justin.  Did you get a chance to try Vanguard V for Morpheus?  I couldn’t make it to PSX, but the game did!” Though not outright stated, this certainly seems to confirm the title is on track for a launch on PlayStation 4.

Vanguard V is a unique VR experience that can be controlled using just the head-tracking technology within the given HMD. The title is controlled from a third-person perspective as players follow Qu, a flight suit pilot that is tasked with destroying a threat to humanity known as parasites. Players journey through space and even below the surface of entire planets, trying to defeat the source of the parasite infestation. The flight suit is controlled by simply looking at enemies to target and where to move.

During the Kickstarter campaign Moravetz had hoped to released Vanguard V in September 2015. It’s not clear if this is still the case. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s progress in the future, reporting back with any further updates.
