Voting Opens for Leap Motion 3D Jam Finalists

Back in October 2014 Leap Motion launched a 3D videogame jam, tasking developers with creating virtual reality (VR) experiences that use the company’s hand-tracking controller. Two separate categories were open, one for teams attending the IndieCade event in California two months ago and one for just about everyone else, with a total value to $75,000 USD in prizes to be given out across the eventual winners. Now that submissions for the contest are in, public voting for the finalists has begun.

What this essentially means is there are a lot of new VR experiences that use the Leap Motion controller now available to try. A long list of entrants can be found over on the contest’s website. The majority of these titles have been optimised for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). The list includes Weightless, a meditative experience in which players can interact with objects in zero gravity in space and Aboard The Looking Glass, a unique experience in which using the player’s hands creates links to both the past and future.

To vote, users need to register an account and then leave a star rating on the titles that they have sampled by 16th December 2014. Following that, a list of 20 finalists will be announced on December 20th, with full winners being revealed on 10th January 2015. Prizes include $30,000 in cash and the chance to visit Leap Motion’s headquarters. Also included is the chance for developers to showcase their creations at IndieCast East, which will run between 13th – 15th February in New York City.

There are over 150 submissions to choose from, so there should be more than enough for VR fans with an Oculus Rift and Leap Motion controller to sample. VRFocus will continue to follow the Leap Motion 3D Jam, reporting back with any further updates.
