VR Adventure Title Waking The Glares Launches Kickstarter Campaign

The Kickstarter crowd-funding platform has proved a popular means of raising money for virtual reality (VR) videogames in 2014. The year has seen both great successes and failures. Indie developer Wisefool Studio is hoping to end up in the former category with its recently-launched campaign for VR adventure title, Waking the Glares. The studio is hoping to raise €30,000 EUR to fund the videogame’s creation by 24th December 2014. Should it prove successful then Waking the Glares will launch with full support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD).

This is a first-person adventure in which players are cast as Dawnfall, who starts to hear a mysterious voice having read a life-changing book. Players will follow this voice through seven chapters of fantastical environments, solving a variety of different challenges as they go. Each chapter will take place in a new location, ranging from peaceful suburban settings, dark underground caverns and rivers that twist through urban environments. Those interested can currently try a demo, available through the Kickstarter page.

“The idea to create a visionary and fascinating adventure comes from the great experience we had with the Oculus Rift,” the developer said of the title’s VR support. “Since its first days of development Waking the Glares has been planned to be Oculus Rift compatible.” That said, the studio stressed that support for standard monitors will also be included.

Wisefool Studio hopes to launch Waking the Glares in September 2014. Following the initial goal, a series of stretch goals tease expanded support including Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the title for €60,000. It’s not yet clear if the latter version might support the Project Morpheus HMD. A Steam Greenlight campaign is also currently running. Those interested can currently pledge €10 to secure a digital version of the title on its release. VRFocus will continue to follow Waking the Glares, reporting back with any further updates on its Kickstarter progress.
