Classroom Aquatic Release Window Revealed, PlayStation 4 Version Hinted

It’s been a long time since indie developer Sunken Places has shared an update on the release of Classroom Aquatic, the intriguing virtual reality (VR) compatible ‘cheat-’em up’ that was crowd-funded through Kickstarter early last year. While there has been plenty of other news about the title, the developer has recently confirmed a new launch window for the anticipated experience along with a hint that it could also be coming to PlayStation 4, perhaps with support for the Project Morpheus head-mounted display (HMD) for PlayStation 4 alongside the Oculus Rift on PC.

The studio suggested as much replying to a number of comments on its Kickstarter campaign asking about the launch date, revealing that the title would now arrive in May 2015. “After speaking with Oculus and Sony, we decided to push the release of the game to May of 2015,” the developer revealed. “We’ll be using this extra time to further develop the game, and to put it on as many platforms as possible.” Why else would the studio be talking to Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) if it wasn’t about a PlayStation 4 version of Classroom Aquatic? Project Morpheus isn’t mentioned, but given the title’s focus on VR it’s hard to see support not arriving.

Classroom Aquatic casts players as an exchange student in a school for dolphins. The player’s character has not prepared for a test and thus must cheat by looking at the papers of his fellow classmates. Players will have to try not to get caught as they steal glances at other tests. The full videogame will feature an entire campaign taking them through a semester at the school in which they will participate in other modes such as science fairs and school dances. A demo of the title is currently available through the same Kickstarter page.

It’s interesting to note that Sunken Places moved Classroom Aquatic‘s launch date after speaking to Oculus VR and SCE. Could it be that we’ll know more about the consumer launches of these two HMDs by this time? VRFocus will continue to follow both the videogame and the hardware, reporting back with any further updates on either.
