Hover Launches Alpha Access for Kickstarter Backers

All the way back in May 2014 French indie developer Fusty Game completed a hugely successful Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for Hover: Revolt of Gamers. The studio ended up securing some $116,398 USD to develop the virtual reality (VR) compatible title, which takes inspiration from the classic Jet Set Radio franchise. One of the earliest backer tiers for the campaign promises early access to the title’s alpha phase, allowing players to effectively test the title before its full release. Recently the developer has launched that early access build.

Those that backed at an alpha tier or above should have already received an email containing a key providing access to the testing phase. The developer recommends that all those testing the alpha install Orion software. It’s not clear exactly how much of the title’s content is on offer in the alpha although the developer has previously said it was aiming to include an enlarged city and some of the title’s first missions. It also hasn’t been clarified if support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), which the title is said to be ‘particularly adapted to’, is yet available.

Hover: Revolt of Gamers is a colourful first and third-person free-running experience. Players control a group of roller skating gamers, darting around a futuristic city in revolt against a strict dictator that has banned videogames. Missions will include pulling off impressive stunts to free citizens and more in an attempt to dethrone the mayor. The title is even set to feature music from Hideki Naganuma, the celebrated composer behind the soundtrack for the original Jet Set Radio and other classic SEGA titles.

As for the full launch, Fusty Game hopes to release Hover: Revolt of Gamers in Spring 2015. VRFocus will continue to follow the title, reporting back with any further updates.
