Oculus Story Studio Video Provide Glimpse at Lost and Other Projects

Despite having its every move closely followed by the press and fans alike, Oculus VR is still capable of pulling off some big surprises. Yesterday, for example, the company announced Oculus Story Studio, a brand new team dedicated to working on virtual reality (VR) movies for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). The studio’s first project, Lost, is currently on snow at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, USA but those not fortunate enough to be there can grab a small glimpse in the announcement video below.

The video from Oculus VR itself explains just how Oculus Story Studio came to be as well as the potential for VR filmmaking. It includes comments from VP of Product Nate Mitchell as well as Lost director and former Pixar animator Saschka Unseld. Along with a brief look at Lost there’s also early footage of some of the four other titles that the studio is working on such as Bullfighter and Kabloom. Each of these experiences is intended to be a short piece that looks at a different area of VR filmmaking such as comedy.

Oculus Story Studio’s work is currently running on the company’s Crescent Bay prototype. Those interested in seeing Lost this week will need to book a slot to see it using a new iOS and Android app. VRFocus will continue to follow Oculus Story Studio closely, reporting back with any further updates on it.
