Luckey: Oculus Performing ‘better than an annual release cycle’

CNET’s panel on augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) included an all-star panel of pioneers of AR and VR technology. One of the most notable participants was founder of Oculus VR and creator of the Oculus Rift head mounted display(HMD), Palmer Luckey. During the panel Luckey talked about the advances made in Oculus VR since the company was founded and stressed that people need to be patient.

Luckey decided to take time during the panel to talk about how the perception of how long it’s taking Oculus VR to release the consumer Oculus Rift. He stated :”People see it as this thing where VR’s taking a really long time to come around like ‘Aw, people have been talking about it for years’ but really this whole resurgance in VR has only been round a couple of years.

“Oculus hasn’t even been around for three years as a company. We’re like two and a half years old and we’ve already shipped two products of our own and helped ship Samsung a product of their own. That’s better than an annual release cycle. People are really impatient about things they want but its really hard.”

Oculus VR has stated that it is well on its way to the consumer version (CV1) with certain parts being already eligible for CV1 standard. However for the moment the company is still refining some details on the Crescent Bay prototype. We hope to see release at some point this year though nothing has been confirmed as of yet. VRFocus will keep you updated once more is known.
