Voidrunner Passes Greenlight Campaign, Oculus Support Incoming

Virtual reality (VR) is no stranger to flight simulation. A number of the biggest titles coming to the likes of the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) sit players in a cockpit and task them with taking down enemies or flying through tight environments. Voidrunner, a new VR compatible experience from an indie developer, falls in the latter category. This Unreal Engine 4-developed videogame has recently passed a Steam Greenlight campaign, with the developer revealing that support for the Oculus Rift is incoming.

Voidrunner is described as a ‘speed and reflex flying game’ in which players race a spaceship though complex environments, avoiding obstacles as they head for an exit portal before time runs out. Around 70 maps will feature, with enemies trying to stop players in their tracks. A number of different modes will also be added including a full story mode as well as time attack and a hardcore option in which players will face harder maps with more enemies and a faster pace. Multiplayer and co-op options are also planned.

“Thank you everyone whatever his/her vote is, thanks everyone for their valuable feedback,” the developer said of its Greenlight success. “We have made it people! Voidrunner is greenlit on Steam and only in 3 days! I would have never imagined this level of support and success in such a short time. You wanted it, you supported it and now you greenlit Voidrunner. As I’m preparing to start the development of Early Access Pre-Alpha, Kickstarter is coming soon also! Thank you!”

The pre-alpha version of Voidrunner currently boasts three different vehicles and will be launching via Steam’s Early Access system within the next three months. New ships will be added in the Beta stages as will online deathmatch, new weapons and Oculus Rift support. The developer is also planning a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign to support the title. VRFocus will continue to follow Voidrunner, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
