Indie developer Imgnation Studios is perhaps best known for its popular mobile title, Dodge This, a colourful first-person shooter (FPS) for the iOS operating system (OS) in which players control a stationary weapon. Last year the developer announced that it would be releasing a virtual reality (VR) version of the title following the announcement of Samsung and Oculus VR’s Gear VR smartphone-based head-mounted display (HMD) in September. This week sees Dodge This VR hit the Oculus VR Store as a free download.
Dodge This VR sees players aim a cannon at an assortment of ridiculous characters that attempt to cross an unstable bridge. Specific details about the VR version of the title are thin on the ground, although the original entry allowed for aiming using gyroscopic controls, so it could well be that players can take target enemies using Gear VR’s head-tracking if not with a compatible Bluetooth controller in this version. Extra points can be earned by scoring trick shots while levels range from pirate-themed crossings to medieval battles outside a wizard’s castle.
Over on iOS Dodge This is free to download with in-app purchases (IAP) featuring. On Gear VR the title is of course free at this point in time as a premium option is yet to be implemented into the Oculus VR Store. It’s not yet clear if, once that option launches, Imgnation Studios will start that same IAP system for Dodge This VR. It’s possible to acquire a number of differently themed cannons, each coming with unique attacks and more.
Gear VR is currently available as an Innovator’s Edition in the US only, although it does look as if a European rollout will be happening within the coming week. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all Gear VR titles, reporting back with any further updates on them.
