GDC Panel Addresses Low Latency Issues With VR

The 2nd March will mark the start of the Games Developers Conference (GDC) 2015. Already a large amount of panels have been announced. Now a panel relating to problems revolving around Low Latency and Stutter-Free Rendering in virtual reality (VR) has been announced. The discussion will be Presented by Advanced Micro Devices’ (AMD) lead architect of virtual Reality and advanced Rendering, Layla Mah.

Mah, will detail to the attendees the mechanisms which can be beneficial to VR latency issues. Such mechanisms are intended to reduce both real and ‘perceived’ latency as well as graphics ‘stuttering’. Real world examples of AAA content will also be the subject of discussion as they will explained with performance metrics from before and after, showing the difference in quality.


“This talk will give developers the tools and understanding required to exploit modern GPU architectures to take their graphics engines to the next level: extremely low latency, stutter-free, liquid smooth graphics at high framerates (90-120Hz and beyond),” The panels description reads.

AMD’s panel will start at 15:30 PST to 16:30 in room 2014 on Wednesday 4th March. VRFocus will keep you updated on the panels taking place at GDC.
