M.A.R.S. Extraction VR Launches on Android

Samsung’s Gear VR may now be available in a number of countries, but that isn’t stopping developers releasing experiences for other smartphone-based devices. This week sees the launch of a new virtual reality (VR) videogame for those that own a smartphone-based head-mounted display (HMD) for the Android operating system (OS) such as the Durovis Dive or Google Cardboard. That videogame is M.A.R.S. Extraction VR from indie developer Yannick Comte.

M.A.R.S. Extraction VR is a first-person shooter (FPS) in which players are tasked with escaping from a Martian base having already infiltrated it in order to steal secret plans. Players must hurry in order to find a shuttle that is waiting for them, fending off drone-like enemies as they go. Two types of weapons feature including lasers and missiles while enemies include turrets and kamikazes.

The title is available to download for free over on the Google Play Store although requires either a compatible joystick or keyboard in order to play. It’s not clear if the experience might also arrive on the Oculus Rift PC HMD at some point in the future. VRFocus will continue to follow any and all applications of VR, reporting back with any further updates.
