This week sees the 2015 Developer Week Conference and Expo take place in San Francisco, California, USA. The technology show itself runs from 10th – 11th February while further events will be taking place throughout the week. A number of speaker-led sessions will be held throughout the expo, including one focused on electronics giant Samsung’s recently-launched Gear VR, a smartphone-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display.
Samsung Research America’s Alex Chu will be hosting a session titled ‘Taking VR Mobile: A Closer Look at the Gear VR’. It’s set to offer a general look at the Gear VR tech, talking about its features as well as the apps available for the device. VR enthusiasts may well remember that Chu hosts a talk on ‘Transitioning from a 2D to 3D Design Paradigm’ at 2014’s Samsung Developer Conference (SDC). That talk can now be seen online.
“The Gear VR is a powerful tool for communicating virtual reality experiences,” the event’s description reads. “This presentation introduces the Gear VR through: an overview of its features and content, a look at the development of an 360 video app, Milk VR, and tips to start developing your own Gear VR project.”
Gear VR runs with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 enlarged smartphone. The kit recently launched in the UK, coming to a handful of European countries before then. The device is currently waiting on the launch of a premium option for the Oculus VR Store, which hosts all of its compatible content. VRFocus recently learned that a new version of the device, compatible with Samsung’s Galaxy S6 smartphone, is due to be revealed soon.
