Smash Hit Plunder Dev Shares SWVRC Talk on VR Design Online

Earlier this week saw the first ever South West Virtual Reality Conference (SWVRC) take place in Bristol, UK. The event played host to a huge number of talks on VR videogames, movies and more from prolific developers. One such developer was Katie Goode of Triangular Pixels, the studio currently working on Smash Hit Plunder for the Gear VR smartphone-based head-mounted display (HMD). Following her talk, which was named ‘Allow them to believe: Lessons learnt creating dynamic, VR gameplay’, Goode has shared her presentation online.


Goode shared her slides from the conference over on Triangular Pixel’s official website. The presentation detailed the beginning of Smash Hit Plunder’s development on the Oculus Rift HMD’s first development kit (DK1) before moving onto Gear VR.  Goode also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of working on Samsung’s HMD, which runs using the Galaxy Note 4 handset to deliver untethered, mobile VR experiences. Following that, the developer provided an in-depth talk on the creation process of Smash Hit Plunder thus far, detailing work with the Gear VR’s touchpad and more.

Smash Hit Plunder is a first-person experience set inside a dungeon. Players are tasked with destroying just about any object they come across as they explore, gathering loot from each item smashed. The title was one of the first videogames to be announced for Gear VR when it was first revealed back in September 2014. It’s not yet clear just when the experience will be releasing.
