VR Horror Title Darkness of Man Launches Website

The horror genre has proved to be one of the most popular and effective methods of delivering virtual reality (VR) experiences in the past few years. The sense of isolation provided by the likes of the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) can enhance the feeling of fear far beyond what’s possible on standard displays, giving players incredibly tense experiences. This week sees the reveal of another such experience in Darkness of Man, which has launched a new website that provides a small amount of detail on the project.

Darkness of Man is a PC horror title that has been built ‘from the ground up’ for the Oculus Rift. The experience tackles the concept of parallel worlds, with one world being bright and the other dark. Certain objects and paths won’t appear in both worlds, meaning the player must navigate between the two in order to progress. However, as the website teases, players won’t be alone. A shadowy figure can be seen on the website as users scroll down, suggesting that players will come up against this type of enemy.

There aren’t many more on Darkness of Man at this point in time, including which version of the Oculus Rift it’s being developed for be it consumer or developer. The title is being created by a team of fans of both horror films and movies that want to bring the genre to a new generation. As for any further gameplay details, footage, release dates and more, fans will have to keep on waiting. It’s already becoming hard to stand out in the horror genre with VR; hopefully this is a title that truly innovates to bring something that fans haven’t seen before.

VRFocus will continue to follow Darkness of Man closely, reporting back with any further updates on the title and its development.
