CCP Games to Meet with Valve on Vive Development This Month

With the reveal of Valve and HTC’s Vive virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) earlier this month there’s now yet another major player in the industry. In the weeks that have followed countless developers have been asked if they would consider bringing their Oculus Rift compatible projects to the new kit. CCP Games is no exception, even with its anticipated multiplayer space combat title EVE: Valkyrie closely associated with and even co-published by Oculus VR. Despite this, it looks like CCP Games’ work in VR could well be on its way to the Vive.

VRFocus has learned that CCP Games is set to meet with Valve later this month to discuss VR development. It’s not clear if this means that EVE: Valkyrie itself could come to the device as there could be obvious complications with the title’s relationship with Oculus VR. That said, with the announcement of VR Labs at the EVE Fanfest event this week, CCP Games clearly isn’t stopping its work in VR technology at EVE: Valkyrie. If not that title, then could projects from either CCP Shanghai or CCP Atlanta come to Vive?

CCP Games had plenty of other VR-related announcements to make at EVE Fanfest this year. The company revealed work on the Gear VR smartphone-based HMD with a tech demo named ‘Project Nemesis’ as well as three new Oculus Rift experiments that aim to push the boundaries of what’s possible with VR. As for EVE: Valkyrie, the title received a new trailer, a first look at a central character and even became the first full videogame to be showcased on the Oculus Rift’s Crescent Bay prototype. A release date for the title is yet to be set.

VRFocus will continue to follow CCP Games’ work in VR closely, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
