First Images of New Project Morpheus Revealed

Today at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2015 during Sony’s session, Shushei Yoshida announced a new Project Morpheus prototype. Though the virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) looks very similar to the first iteration of the device the features are very different. After the first screens of the device were revealed.

Sony’s Yoshida detailed some of the new features the device entails including 5.7-inch OLED display at 1920 x RGB x 1080 with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a 100 degree field of view (FOV). As Yoshida suggested in the session, the aim was to design the device to manage 120 frames per second. Along with this the latency has been reduced to a very low 18 milliseconds. Aesthetically, the new version features a light in the centre for the camera to track as well as a flip up visor so users can glimpse the real world.

In the pictures below, the new device seems very similar to the original with minor modifications which set it apart from the other version. The light in the centre allows Playstation’s camera to track the device’s movements.
