Sony to Focus on VR Games at E3 and Beyond

Sony Computer Entertainment continued to tease the future of the Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) at the 2015 Game Developers Conference (GDC) today by revealing a new prototype for the device. The kit features a wide range of updates including a new OLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate, bringing it to a ‘near final’ standard. As for videogames, a handful of new titles were revealed for the kit, although SCE has promised that more will be coming at E3 2015 and beyond.

The company’s Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that SCE would be talking more about Project Morpheus at this year’s show, which takes place from 16th – 18th June in Los Angeles. Traditionally SCE is one of a small group of companies to host a long press conference at the show. Such an event is yet to be confirmed for this year, but could be a big venue for SCE to push new Project Morpheus experiences ahead of the kits 2016 launch. New titles will also be discussed at other upcoming events.

A number of videogames have already been confirmed for Project Morpheus. These include EVE: Valkyrie from CCP Games and Among the Sleep from Krillbite Studio. Earlier in the year VRFocus ran a long speculation piece about some of the other titles that might appear on the device, given that they’re already on PC with support for the Oculus Rift HMD. VRFocus will continue to follow each and every VR compatible videogame, reporting back with any further updates on them.

  1. Then Sony is going the way of the dodo. It was already going to be this way, this will just accelerate it.
