Team Speak, New Class and Mode Integreated into EVE: Valkyrie at EVE Fanfest

Upcoming multiplayer space combat title EVE: Valkyrie has proved to be an effective way of demonstrating virtual reality (VR) technology at various events. Set to arrive on both the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus head-mounted displays (HMD), the videogame allows players to not only live out a fantasy that almost anyone has had, but also acclimatise to VR in an experience that’s optimised. However, many will have noticed the absence of team speak options during their time with the title, something that has now been added into a build shown at EVE Fanfest.

EVE: Valkyrie is running on the Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2) at the fan-focused event in Reykjavik, Iceland this week. This particular build of the title features a host of improvements from its previous showings, including the team speak option in which players can hold a button to talk with teammates. Not only that but the Heavy class is also available to play alongside the Wraith option that has been tested with the title in the past. The build also features a new mode named ‘Control Zone’, which works around capturing bases.

As the name suggests, EVE: Valkyire is based in the popular EVE universe that CCP Games has created, also consisting of EVE Online and Dust 514. The title puts players in the cockpit of their craft before shooting them out into space to take on the enemy. It is being developed on Unreal Engine 4 and features voice work from Battlestar Galactica‘s Katee Sackhoff. Recently, CCP Games has been teasing expanded work in VR, including development for the Gear VR smartphone-based HMD, which could well be revealed in full at EVE Fanfest this week.

A release date for EVE: Valkyrie is yet to be revealed. VRFocus will continue to follow the title closely, reporting back with any further updates on the title’s progress.
