Technolust Opens Arcade Contest

Indie developer IRIS V.R. remains hard at work on its upcoming virtual reality (VR) compatible adventure videogame, Technolust. As those that have followed the title thus far will know, one of its main draws is giving players a chance to live out life in a cyberpunk future, interacting with ‘everyday’ items such as arcade cabinets. Recently the developer has launched a new competition that looks to get the community involved in creating brand new arcade cabinets for use within the videogame.

The developer announced the new competition via a thread on Reddit. As the studio’s Blair Renaud explains, development of Technolust has reached the point in which the title needs to replace its placeholder arcade cabinets that pay homage to classic videogames such as Altered Beast and Pac-Man. The developer is asking for fans and other creators to submit new arcade cabinets, featuring their own titles that they would like to have advertised within Technolust. Entrants can either adapt some of the templates display by the developer or create their own models provided they have a reasonable poly count and are UV mapped.

Technolust takes inspiration from the likes of Blade Runner, placing players in a distant future in which corporations control the world. Players can either join a resistance against these groups, fighting back against them, or simply enjoy life in the future, spending time in their personal space and gathering movies to watch. The title passed a Kickstarted crowd-funding campaign last year, raising from $64,477 CAD towards development. It’s set to launch with full support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD).

A release date for Technolust is yet to be announced. VRFocus will continue to follow the title closely, reporting back with any further updates on it.
