VR Exploration Title RedFrame Still in Development, New Demo Coming

Virtual reality (VR) fans that have been following the technology for the past few years may well have already heard of RedFrame, an upcoming exploration videogame from indie developers Andrew Coggeshall and Michael Stevenson. Early last year the pair announced that the title would be supporting the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), releasing a small demo to showcase its integration. The rest of the year remained quiet for the team, but it has recently delivered a new progress update, confirming that it is still coming and that a new demo is on the way.

Writing on RedFrame‘s official blog, Coggeshall confirmed that, for the past five months, both he and Steveson have been working hard on the title and made ‘great progress’. Steveson has been building a ‘robust infrastructure’ for the title while Coggeshall has spent time developing the yard area of the house in which RedFrame is set. The pair hope to launch a new demo, complete with interactive puzzles that will then ‘grow out’ into the final game. Going forward, Coggeshall will return to puzzle design while Steveson works on environmental storytelling.

“There will be a lot to share with you this year and we’re very excited to show it to you,” the developed noted in a blog update. “Thanks for the support and stay tuned!”

Little is currently known about RedFrame, other than the fact that it has been in development for around five years at this point. The title seems to be set within one house, which players will be able to explore using the Oculus Rift. The team has previously noted that it is adjusting many of its design decisions to better support the HMD. A release date for the title is yet to be announced.

VRFocus will continue to follow RedFrame closely, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
