There are two titles that videogame fans often look to when thinking of ideal virtual reality (VR) videogames. The first is Bethesda Softworks’ The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, with its unrivalled level of freedom and exploration. Players also dream of immersing themselves in an intense combat experience such as Dark Souls using the likes of the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). This week has seen the launch of a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for a videogame that looks to combine these two titles.
Aylus: Exiled Dominions is a first-person role playing videogame (RPG) that aims to mix the exploration of the former title with the combat of the latter. Developed by indie team Dark Ice Studios, the title seeks to deliver a multiplayer experience in which up to 200 players can explore a vast world with support for the Oculus Rift. Players will be able to fight large beasts using weapons such as swords, levelling up their character as they go. The title also boasts a unique health system which is dictated by the player’s stamina levels.
The title’s Kickstarter campaign is hoping to raise $53,200 USD by 3rd May 2015 in order to fund development. Those interested can currently pledge $25 towards the campaign in order to secure a digital copy at its intended release in November 2016. A range of stretch goals for the campaign also tease further VR support, including a PlayStation 4 version with Project Morpheus integration for $140,000 and support for Valve and HTC’s Vive HMD at a $150,000 goal.
VRFocus will continue to follow Aylus: Exiled Dominions, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
