VR Theme Park Atom Universe Launches Kickstarter Campaign

Roller coasters make for popular virtual reality (VR) experiences. Strapping on an Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) and being taken on a fast-paced thrill ride is an effective way of communicating the technology’s potential. That said, many ride-based VR experiences have been limited to just one course thus far. UK-based indie studio Atom Republic is looking to change that with its recent launch of a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for Atom Universe, a full VR theme park for PC and PlayStation 4.

Atom Universe is an online theme park that features a number of different types of attractions. Scheduled to launch first on PC with support for the Oculus Rift, the title will feature a main hub with rides such as a minikart race, a shooting gallery that takes the form of a first-person shooter (FPS) and a buggy ride on a stunt course. Already approved by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), a PlayStation 4 release will follow the PC version with full support for the Project Morpheus HMD.

The title’s Kickstarter campaign is looking to raise £20,000 GBP by 15th April 2015. It will launch as a free-to-play experience and those interested can pledge £10 to receive 15 Atomz, which serves as the videogame’s currency. Various other pledges will provide more Atomz as well as various other rewards. The PC edition seems to be aiming for a release in August 2015.

VRFocus will continue to follow Atom Universe‘s progress, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
