Today saw the announcement of HTC’s new virtual reality (VR) head mounted display (HMD) the HTC Vive. Along with the announcement also came a list of partners affiliated with the device. Among them is Dutch videogame developer Vertigo Games. After the announcement, the company tweeted about an exciting update on the partnership.
In a tweet Vertigo Games stated “Stay tuned for an exciting update from Vertigo Games! #Vive @SteamVR @htc”. The company didn’t confirm if this meant that it would be bringing World of Diving, its VR compatible diving simulator, to the device, or working on something new.
Currently World of Diving is available on Steam early access. The videogame involves looking around tropical reefs and deep seas as well as famous shipwrecks including the Bismarck. Players are able to traverse the deep oceans solo or with friends. Included as a social multiplayer experience is the ability to take pictures and customise the player’s diver. Users are able find different amounts of loot and treasure by searching the sea floor and finding clams. Also available to purchase is real estate and water based vehicles like submarines or boats.
