EVE: Valkyrie ‘coming along great’ on Project Morpheus

There are only a handful of announced videogames for Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE) virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), Project Morpheus, at this point in time. Among them is highly anticipated multiplayer space combat title, EVE: Valkyrie. The PlayStation 4 version made its debut alongside Project Morpheus itself at the 2014 Game Developers Conference (GDC) and was playable at CCP Games’ annual fan event, EVE Fanfest. That said, EVE: Valkyrie was missing from Project Morpheus’ slate at GDC 2015 and EVE Fanfest 2015. According to the team however, there’s no reason to worry.

CCP Games Newcastle’s Erich Cooper confirmed as much to VRFocus in an interview at last month’s event. “So the Morpheus is coming along great,” Cooper reassured. “The reason why we haven’t got it here this year is that they announced their new tech at GDC and GDC to Fanfest is maybe two weeks, so we wouldn’t have got a build ready to do it justice on any hardware.” Last year’s show offered a limited amount of attendees to be among the first to try Project Morpheus. The title was found running on the Oculus Rift’s Crescent Bay prototype at this year’s event.

SCE’s reintroduced Project Morpheus contains a 1080p OLED display that boasts a 120Hz refresh rate. Its reveal confirmed that SCE is planning to launch a consumer version of the kit and that the company will be spending much of 2015 promoting the device at events such as E3 in June.

EVE: Valkyrie is a multiplayer combat title that puts players in iconic ships from the EVE universe. The title currently doesn’t have a release date attached to it, though is aiming to be ready for the launch of both the Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus, the latter of which is expected to hit in 2016.

VRFocus will continue to follow both EVE: Valkyrie and Project Morpheus closely, reporting back with the latest updates on either.
