The Farm 51 Reveals Reality 51 and Chernobyl VR Project

Those that have been following VRFocus over the past few weeks will have likely seen that Get Even developer The Farm 51 has been teasing a new project known as Reality 51. This was thought to be a new division of the studio dedicated entirely to making new virtual reality (VR) experiences for brands and other companies as the name already appeared at the Pozna? Motor Show alongside Arrinera. Now The Farm 51 has officially lifted the lid on the project, and these assumptions have largely turned out to be true.

Reality 51 intends to explore the use of VR outside of entertainment, looking at a number of potential applications for the technology. On top of detailing the car experience, which ran with the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), Creative Director Wojciech Pazdur also revealed that Reality 51 was working with the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology and MediPage, a medical journal. These projects are yet to be revealed in full. Alongside the Oculus Rift, the VR division will also be working on Oculus VR and Samsung’s Gear VR smartphone-based HMD.

Perhaps the most intriguing part of the experience is the ‘Chernobyl VR Project’, a piece that will allow users to take a trip around selected locations in both Chernobyl and Pripyat. A promotional movie for the experience has been showcased to journalists in Poland, although there’s no word on what others might be able to get their first look at it.

It doesn’t appear that this new division will be affecting work on Get Even, a VR first-person shooter (FPS) that’s set to feature support for the Oculus Rift on PC and even the Project Morpheus HMD on PlayStation 4. The developer recently confirmed that the title is still very much in development and is now working with a ‘global publisher’. Said publisher will be revealed in the near future.

VRFocus will continue to follow Reality 51, reporting back with any further updates on the company’s progress.
