Infinity Runner PS4 Release Date Revealed

Yesterday VRFocus reported on the launch of a major update to the PC version of virtual reality (VR) compatible videogame, Infinity Runner from UK-based developer Wales Interactive. The upgrade, which added support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display’s (HMD) second development kit (DK2) along with greatly improved visuals, was designed to improve the title ahead of a launch on PlayStation 4. Now a release date for the console version of the VR videogame has been revealed.

An official page for the PlayStation 4 version of Infinity Runner lists a 22nd April 2015 release date for the videogame. Of course, VR support won’t be included in this initial release but Wales Interactive has said in the past that it is looking at adding support for the Project Morpheus HMD to the title. Project Morpheus itself isn’t due out until the first half of 2016, meaning VR support would have to be added in at a later date if it is indeed going to be included in this version.

Infinity Runner is a first-person action videogame that casts players as a prisoner on a massive space ship known as the Infinity. An outbreak of a space werewolf soon leads to players finding their freedom and having to escape the ship before turning into one of its victims. The title features a campaign mode in which players will avoid obstacles and defeat enemies as well as a 32 player head-to-head multiplayer option. The PC version of the experience is currently on sale on Steam until 13th April.

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) recently introduced a new prototype of Project Morpheus with an OLED 1080p display that boasts a refresh rate of 120Hz. The kit is set to be displayed at this year’s E3 in Los Angeles, California, USA on 16th – 18th June.

VRFocus will continue to follow Infinity Runner closely, reporting back with any further updates on the title.
