New Insidious 4D Experience Uses Oculus Rift to Bring Users Into the Further

Virtual reality (VR) is becoming a key tool in the promotion of upcoming movies, having been used to advertise the likes of Interstellar and X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014. The trend is set to continue in 2015, with the upcoming third chapter in the Insidious horror franchise utilising the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) as part of a ‘4D experience’. A US tour for ‘Insidious: Chapter 3 – Into The Further 4D Experience‘, as it’s called, is currently underway. A trailer for the experience can be seen below.

Unlike other VR-based campaigns, this experience doesn’t rely solely on the Oculus Rift. Instead the attraction consists of a walk-through section in which fans are subjected to scares coming from every direction, making them feel as if they have stepped into the world of Insidious. Attendees will then be sat down and have an Oculus Rift strapped on to witness an experience that will drag them into ‘the further’, a lot realm populated by tortured souls that appears in the film trilogy. Tickets can be booked from an official site using the code ‘SCARIESTINSIDIOUS’.

Insidious: Chapter 3 – Into The Further 4D Experience has already visited both Atlanta and Miami, but has plenty more stops ahead of it on its tour. It will come to Chicago’s C2E2 expo from 24th – 26th April 2015 before heading to the South Street Spring Festival in Philadelphia on 2nd – 3rd May. From there it will head to LA Live-ish, Los Angeles from 15th – 17th May, Carnavale, San Francisco from 22nd – 23rd May and Dallas Fan Expo, Dallas from 29th – 31st May. The tour will round off in New York from 5th – 7th June at an undetermined venue.

VRFocus will continue to follow any and all uses of VR, reporting back with the latest updates on them.

    1. No news on this as far as we know, but we are principally UK based so if we hear tell of anything we’ll let you know(!)

  1. Will they release the content for the rift to the public, so people who couldn’t get the chance to check out the ride to try out the rift game/movie?
