Verizon Announce NFL Player Experience for Gear VR

Ahead of the 2015 NFL Draft, being hosted in Chicago, US, for the first time in more than 50 years, Verizon Wireless has announced a number of new feature technologies including a brand new virtual reality (VR) experience. The company is improving its network in the Grant Park area as well as bringing new technology to fans to offer them a special NFL experience at multiple locations around the city.

The NFL’s Draft Town in Grant Park and the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, which is hosting the Draft, will be the epicentre for thousands of NFL fans. For the duration of the event, the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University has been equipped with a temporary in-building Distributed Antennae System (DAS) to ensure all teams can easily communicate as they work to make their draft selections. Furthermore, Verizon has added two 4G LTE Cell on Light Trucks (COLTs) to the Grant Park area to boost coverage capacity.

For VR fans, Verizon is also bringing the experience of an NFL game to fans at a special venue located in the NFL Draft Town and at its store on Michigan Avenue. A tent will be hosted in NFL Draft Town that will host a number of Gear VR head-mounted displays (HMDs) with a unique application allowing users to gain unique insight into the life of an NFL player: running out of the tunnel at the start of the game, getting pumped with your teammates and scoring a touchdown via a 360-degree VR experience.

The VR application will be available to experience at the tent in NFL Draft Town and at the Verizon store, 840 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, from Thursday, 30th April 2015, til Saturday, 2nd May 2015. There is currently no information available on a potential Oculus Home release of the application for Gear VR owners but VRFocus will of course keep you updated with all the latest details.
