Oculus VR’s official Mobile virtual reality (VR) Jam moves into its second milestone this week. This means that entrants are now starting to reveal screenshots and concepts of their unique ideas for new videogames and experiences for the Gear VR smartphone-based head-mounted display (HMD). One such entrant is Conduit Games, a team of three developers including Kyle D’Aoust, Matthew Parr and Clay Bradfield, which is working on a title named Invasion 101: Perception. The experience is designed to be an introduction to VR for first-timer users.
Invasion 101: Perception casts players as a Kebaxian, part of an alien race that is preparing to invade Earth. In order to join the invading force on the assault on the planet, players must first pass a series of challenges in the Invasion 101: Perception class. This involves identifying Earth objects using the hints provided. These hints can range from being given the first letter of the object’s name to the colour of the object or perhaps the number of objects there are within a group. Once the correct object has been located users need simply tap the Gear VR touchpad when looking at it.
The title will include three different difficulty levels that will affect the amount of time players have to identify objects. It will also keep player’s high scores and include some bonus elements.
As part of the videogames track of the Mobile VR Jam, Invasion 101: Perception hopes to win the grand prize of $200,000 USD. Runner up prizes include $100,000, $50,000 and $10,000 respectively. The Jam will hit its next milestone on 4th May 2015 when developers will have to submit video footage of their title running. Following that, submissions of the final build at due on 11th May. Winners will be announced in early June.
VRFocus will continue to follow the VR Jam closely, highlight more entries as the competition progresses.
