For many of those who have played and grown up with videogames, it is a dream to be (in some form or another) a part of one. Perhaps this is one of the reasons Kickstarter and the videogames medium go so well together. Now one such campaign is giving you the opportunity to not just contribute but become part of the virtual reality (VR) experience itself.
Endtimes Studio’s Plugged offers unique mix of 50’s style iconography and more modern pop culture as part of a classic point-and-click adventure format revised through use of either the Oculus Rift DK1 or DK2 head-mounted display (HMD) into a ‘look ‘n’ click’. As well as dealing with puzzles and following a branching storyline, Plugged also involves interacting with a number of recurring characters all of whom appear in the videogame as cardboard cut-outs. Backers of the Kickstarter now have the chance to be a part of the final product as one of these NPCs, all of whom will be able to interact with the player character.
Following its recent trailer, as well as a playable demo the Unreal Engine 4 developed videogame is offering the opportunity to seventeen Kickstarter backers as part of their higher-tier rewards: ten as part of ‘The Omnipresent’ bracket at £600 with five from ‘The Puppeteer’ bracket (£1000) and two from ‘The Harbinger’ (£3000) each of which contain the rewards received from The Omnipresent as well as additional rewards of their own.
At the time of writing sixteen of the slots still remain open for new backers who want to see themselves actually become part of a videogame. VRFocus will continue to bring you updates and news from all over the VR landscape.
