Google Announces New Mobile HMD

Iconic technology company Google has become a significant player in the virtual reality (VR) space over the course of the past year. Back in 2014 it revealed the Google Cardboard concept which consisted of a DIY mobile head-mounted display (HMD) that used simple materials that people could either gather themselves or purchase. Google Cardboard has had a huge impact on mobile VR since then, but now the company is ready to reveal the next step in its work in VR: an ‘improved’ cardboard viewer.

Google revealed during a keynote speech at its I/O Developer Conference today in San Francisco, California, USA. This new design works with larger phones, with screens of up to 6 inches. It also features a new magnet that Clay Bavor, VP of Product Management of Google, assures will work with ‘every phone’, and in addition the device will only take 3 steps to assemble as opposed to 6.

New Google Cardboard

No new name has yet been revealed for the device, however VRFocus will continue to follow Google reporting back with the latest updates.
