Monstrum Gets Full Release Date and Final Price

For the past few months indie developer Team Junkfish has been working hard on the final version of its virtual reality (VR) compatible horror title, Monstrum. The videogame has been available through Valve’s Steam Early Access system since last January, offering a handful of the content set to be on offer in the full version. This week sees Team Junkfish finally confirm when the full version of Monstrum will launch. The initial release will come without support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), though integration is expected to arrive soon.

Monstrum will be available on Steam on 20th May 2015, priced at £11.99 GBP/$17.99 USD. That’s a small bump up from the still-available Early Access version, set at £9.99/$14.99. The title is a procedurally generated first-person experience in which players are tasked with escaping a disused ship. As they search for escape routes, players will be hunted by one of a number of different types of monsters. Should they die then players will restart with an entirely different ship layout. The full version features three different types of monsters.

“We’re really excited to be launching Monstrum fully next week!” Monstrum director Jaime Cross said of the news. It’s been a lot of hard sailing from the initial Early Access release in January until this point, so we’re delighted to navigate our way here. I’m all out of bad puns, but it’s been genuinely amazing to see all these people playing Monstrum so far, how they take to it, and making it better thanks to their input. Watching videos and seeing fanart from people all across the world has really made the whole thing worthwhile, so we hope that they like the new additions we’re adding into the final version.”

Team Junkfish is yet to comment on if Monstrum will see a release on HTC Vive or PlayStation 4 with support for the Project Morpheus HMD. VRFocus will continue to follow the title closely, reporting back with any further updates on it.
