Last month Oculus VR launched a brand new virtual reality (VR) development Jam in the form of the Mobile VR Jam. The contest tasked studios with creating new apps and videogames for the Gear VR smartphone-based head-mounted display (HMD). Final submissions for the Jam took place last week, with a panel of judges having looked through them since that time. Now Oculus VR has announced a long list of finalists for the Jam, narrowing the list of hopeful developers that are looking to secure some of the $1,020,000 USD prize pool.
A total of 61 titles have made it into the Mobile VR Jam’s second round of judging. 37 of these belong in the videogame category, which offers a grand prize of $200,000, while the other 24 belong in the app or experiences track, with first place getting $100,000. Finalists include Jake Slack’s Private Eye Case Files: The Wooden Lady, DRIFT and Colosse: A Story in Virtual Reality. A complete list can be seen below.
“We’ve poured over your submissions to make sure each one was reviewed by a least three judges in Round 1, scoring them based on promise and innovation and selecting the top 20% of submissions in each track,” Oculus noted in an update. Finalists are set to be announced in 3rd June 2015. Community voting for $10,000 awards in each track are also still on offer.
VRFocus will continue to follow the Mobile VR Jam closely, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
