Media Molecule Suggests Dreams is a Morpheus Title

One of the many new titles revealed at Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE’S) pre-E3 press conference this week was Dreams, the long-awaited experience from Tearaway and LittleBigPlanet developer, Media Molecule. This unique experience will allow players to bring their own creations to life using the PlayStation 4. Some fans have speculated that, although it wasn’t mentioned at the conference, the title might support the Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). Now Media Molecule itself has dropped a strong hint that this is the case.

Dreams Creative Director Mark Healey recently suggested as much in an interview with Engadget. While not confirming that the title would support the HMD, which is due to launch in the first half of 2016, he did reveal that SCE’s Anton Mikhailov, who played a big role in the development of Project Morpheus, was now working at the UK-based developer himself. “Let’s just say Anton Mikhailov, who helped build the first-ever Morpheus prototype, is at Molecule now. … So I’ll leave it at that,” Healey said.

It certainly sounds as if the studio could be working in VR, then. Media Molecule first revealed its efforts with PlayStation 4 at the consoles reveal back in 2013. It showcased a puppet-esque experience in which players utilised the PlayStation Move motion controller in order to make characters on-screen dance. Could this kind of work also find its way into Dreams? Little information about how the title will actually be controlled has been revealed, so anything is possible at this point in time.

VRFocus will continue to follow Media Molecule closely, reporting back with any further VR-related updates from the developer.

  1. Oh my! VR? I was interested in this title to start but VR flat-out seals the deal. I would *love* to experience these amazingly stylistic worlds in VR.

  2. The stuff from the PS4 reveal event has evolved into Dreams.

This will definitely be the system seller that VR and Project Morpheus has waited for. Dreams could be the 3D world/game/everything creator that everyone has been waiting for.
Dreams is next generation Play, Create , Share.

    1. You couldn’t be more right about that. Dreams probably could even bring PS move back to life, if they make it a control option along side Project morpheus. PS move was always meant to be used in VR not on TV, it just makes sense.
