Red Dwarf’s Lister Experiences Oculus Rift

British actor Craig Charles, famous for bringing to life Rob Grant and Doug Naylor’s Lister in science-fiction comedy series Red Dwarf, has a long history of being involved in emerging technology. The latest example of his passion for virtual reality (VR) came from this weekend’s Glastonbury festival, where Charles was seen experiencing the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD).

Charles’ television career has included a number of technology-related ventures, including hosting the BBC game show, Cyberzone, back in 1993. Other projects have included hosting Robot Wars for 5 seasons and science-fiction quiz series, Space Cadets, in 1997. Charles also has appeared in various panel-based comedy shows and hosts a regular radio show on BBC Radio 2 in addition to playing a regular character on ITV’s Coronation Street.

The latest in a long line of celebrities seen enthusiastically sampling the new medium, Charles joins the likes of James Cameron, Kevin Spacey,¬†Guillermo del Toro and videogaming’s own Shigeru Miyamoto.
