Reload Gets $2 Million Investment, World War Toons Heading to E3

Earlier in the year virtual reality (VR) dedicated indie developer Reload Studios revealed its first title in the multiplayer first-person shooter (FPS), World War Toons. The developer has remained quiet since that time, although will next month reach its one-year anniversary. Before the studio has even reached that age, however, it has raised significant investment from another company. World Innovation Lab (WiL), a technology investment firm based in both Silicon Valley and Tokyo, has invested $2 million USD in the team.

With developers that have worked on the likes of the Call of Duty franchise currently working on the team, Reload Studios will no doubt find good use for its investment in its ongoing projects. “We are extremely excited to be collaborating with WiL,” said Reload Studios and founder, James Chung. “Their support will help us focus on developing and promoting our current projects as well as growing Reload Studios beyond just a development studio.”

WiL CEO and co-founder, Gen Isayama, also added: “We are excited to join forces with such a talented team. We view Reload not as a VR gaming studio, but as a true pioneer in VR entertainment.”

On top of the investment news, Reload Studios also confirmed that it will be at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, California, USA, showcasing World War Toons. The title is a cartoon-esque World War 2-era shooter in which players go head-to-head in online matches. At its E3 showing the developer will be ‘proposing a way to define free navigation within a VR space while mitigating the potential for motion sickness via proprietary control schemes and settings.’

It’s currently not clear which platforms World War Toons will be arriving on, though hopefully this too will be confirmed at this year’s show. VRFocus will continue to follow World War Toons closely, reporting back with any further updates on its progress.
