Qantas Airlines Offering VR to Customers

With the Samsung Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD) showing the diversity that virtual reality (VR) can offer different industries, now the airlines are starting trial projects by giving passengers more interactive choices on flights. Qantas the Australian airline has teamed up with Samsung Electronics Australia to bring the Gear VR to the company’s first class passengers.

As reported by Gulf Business, Qantas started the trial project earlier this year, and provides customers at its Sydney and Melbourne International first class lounges and first class cabins the Gear VR HMD. The interactive content available showcases Qantas’ network of destinations, Qantas products and in-flight movies and entertainment. This makes Qantas the first global airline to offer VR experiences to customers in-flight.

The airline is also collaborating with Tourism NT to create new content, with the first project being a VR experience of Kadadu National Park.

Qantas maybe the first airline to embrace VR technology within its fleet but it probably won’t be the last, as airlines look to modern technology and trends to entice customers.

VRFocus will continue to follow all the latest announcements regarding VR around the world.
