SIGGRAPH Finalist Releases Gameplay Footage

The SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques Conference and Exhibition 2015 being held on 11-13th August, which VRFocus previously reported on, is holding an Immersive (AR/VR) Contest to pick three finalists to show of their virtual reality (VR) technology. The first finalist named, Real Virtuality by Artanim has now released gameplay footage of the project.

The video shows how the Artanim project is about developing an immersive platform combining a virtual space with a real one, users of the system should be able to freely move within the physical space while virtually visiting 3D interactive environments. The visitors are equipped with a specially marked virtual reality (VR) headset and sets of motion capture markers on their hands and feet to increase immersion in the 3D space and to provide real time feedback when interacting with objects of the environment.

Artanim chose to model a Pharaoh’s tomb as a case study. Using an Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), visitors are able to explore the tomb by foot, to illuminate their surroundings by holding a virtual torch and to interact with the environment.

VRFocus will be following the latest updates to Real Virtuality and the outcome of the SIGGRAPH 2015 contest.
